Humble Leadership – A Chat With AMA Boston President Bob Cargill by Trevor Stasik

Business, Leadership, Motivation
Humble Leadership - A Chat With AMA Boston President Bob Cargill by Trevor Stasik I had the pleasure of meeting with Bob Cargill recently. He was humble; kind yet authoritative, just the type of leader you can admire. With over 30 years of leadership experience in the field of marketing and as the current President of the American Marketing Association (AMA) Chapter for Boston, he was nice enough to let me hear his perspective and philosophy on leadership. Bob is currently on his second tour of duty as the President of the Boston AMA, having served previously several years ago. Bob is also an adjunct professor with three different universities. He has been President of Toastmasters clubs. He was President of his running club, and has ran the Boston Marathon…

The 2021 American Marketing Association Leadership Summit

The 2021 American Marketing Association Leadership Summit

Leadership, Marketing
I had such a ridiculously awesome time this past weekend (May 13-15) providing the social media coverage of FLEX, the 2021 American Marketing Association Leadership Summit. It was such an incredibly inspirational virtual event that brought together AMA professional chapter leaders from all over the country for networking, learning, celebrating and so much more. Co-chaired by American Marketing Association Cincinnati's Gina Bonar and AMA Houston's – BJ Gerjes, both of whom were absolutely fantastic in their roles, the Leadership Summit was an energetic, enthusiastic educational experience for countless reasons. Ordinarily, I would have used a good, old-fashioned selfie stick and phone to take pictures of everybody, but this was a virtual event, of course. So instead, here are a few great group screenshots I captured along the way - How…

This Is the Time to Show the Human Side of Your Brand

This Is the Time to Show the Human Side of Your Brand

Advertising, Branding, Leadership, Marketing, Social Media
In these uncertain times, countless brands are adjusting their advertising and marketing messages. What about you? This is not the time to think you can just set it and forget it when it comes to communicating with your customers and constituents, especially on social media. This is not the time for your canned sales pitches. This is the time to reach out to your audience and ask how you can help them. During this pandemic, your business may still be in operation, but your focus should not just be on your bottom line, it should be on doing what you can for the greater good. This is the time to show the human side of your brand. This is the time to speak honestly about how the health crisis is…

How Marketers Can Respond to the Coronavirus Outbreak

How Marketers Can Respond to the Coronavirus Outbreak

Advertising, Branding, Business, Leadership, Marketing
Amid the rapidly worsening coronavirus outbreak, marketers, advertisers, brands and businesses might need to adjust, if not pause their messages to consumers. It is important to be sensitive to the seriousness of this situation. The economy may be threatened, but lives are at stake. Take a look at any of your existing marketing campaigns and make sure to bring them up-to-date. Authenticity is always a priority in marketing, but now more than ever, what you say to your audience is a representation of how you feel as a brand. Business must go on, but think how you might be able to do things in a better way. Think like CVS Health. They announced today that they will deliver prescribed medications to customers for free. That's a win-win situation if ever…

Corporate Culture Counts

Corporate Culture Counts

Boston Red Sox, Business, Leadership, Motivation
The importance of having a good, positive culture in the workplace cannot be underestimated. The Boston Red Sox won 108 games during the regular season this year, the most in franchise history, and then cruised through the postseason to win their fourth World Series title since 2004. The Sox had to compete against plenty of other talented baseball teams in 2018, but perhaps none had the camaraderie and culture the Boston team had in their clubhouse. Maybe none had such a supportive, selfless manager like Alex Cora at the helm, either. Talent and skills aren’t always the determining factors in winning. Without the right culture instilled into the workplace, even the best teams – and businesses in general – can fall behind the competition. Without a strong leader installed at…

What Can I Do for You?

Business, Copywriting, Direct Marketing, Marketing, Social Media
I'm a traditional marketer. I'm a digital marketer. I'm a content marketer. I'm a social media marketer. I can provide you with strategies and workflows. I can help you manage people and projects. I can provide you with copy. I can provide you with content. Yup. I've been writing in this field for a long time…since 1983. I've written everything from direct mail to email, print ads to banner ads…AND then there's social media. In 2004, I started my blog, "A New Marketing Commentator," and I haven't looked back. Yup. I've done a ton of social media! Frankly, I consider myself an ultra-modern, hybrid marketer who can help you out in a variety of ways, both B2B and B2C, agency and client side. What can I do for you? A…

The Importance of Trust Among Colleagues

Business
I've read a lot of Patrick Lencioni's books on leadership and business management. They are all ridiculously awesome and incredibly insightful. "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" is one of his best books, if you ask me. One of the dysfunctions he writes about in this book is the absence of trust. Trust is essential to the success of a team. Without trust in the workplace, team members will be more than likely to work ineffectively. Trust needs to be earned, of course, but if the right people are on board, trust is a given. A presence of trust in the workplace (or among any group of people working together towards the same goal) helps ensure that every single individual contributor on the team is performing his or her duties…

The Quality of Empathy in a Leader

Business
Empathy. It's a quality possessed by many great leaders. It's a quality to admire. Those who are empathetic are able to understand others. Apparently Theo Epstein has a great deal of empathy. That's one thing I learned about him in the December 19, 2016 issue of Sports Illustrated. As a general manager, he's already won two World Series with the Boston Red Sox and one with the Chicago Cubs. He's a winner. He's a leader. And he's empathetic.
