You don’t have to look far to see the latest rage in eyewear. Turn on the TV. Flip through a magazine. Check out your colleagues. Take a poll of your friends. In the blink of an eye, it seems like everyone who wears glasses has jumped on the bandwagon and is now styling the new thicker, so-called hipster frames.
Of course, many brands in the industry have responded to this new trend, but one company in particular has stood out to me in a big, positive way…
That would be Warby Parker.
I first learned about Warby Parker while watching NBC’s The Today Show on May 25 of this year. Included in a segment about how eyewear has gone geek was a brief interview with the co-founders of this newfangled eyewear company that caught my attention.
Thinking I might like to make my own bold fashion statement in eyewear, I visited Warby Parker online, where I discovered more than a handful of cool, vintage-like frames that I could try on at home with their compliments, an offer too good to refuse.
Unfortunately, Warby Parker doesn’t provide progressive lenses. And as much as I like their frames, I’m not sure if I want to get another pair (even though they’re only $95) just for reading or distance. I could always take advantage of their frame-only purchase option for $85.50 and buy the lenses elsewhere, but I don’t think I want to go in that direction, either. I’m still mulling over my options.
Whether I do business with Warby Parker or not, however, I’m more than impressed with the variety, quality and affordability of their frames, the convenience of their Home Try-On Program, the magnitude of their benevolence — for every pair of glasses they sell, they provide a pair to someone in need — and their responsiveness on Twitter, where I asked one question about them and not only did I get a prompt response from the company, I got replies from some 20 happy customers of theirs.
