Clayton Young, I’m cheering for you in the Chicago Marathon on October 11, one week from today.
You’ve declared your goal publicly: run faster than 2:04:43 and break the American marathon record set by your friend, teammate and training partner, Conner Mantz.
You ran an incredible 2:05:41 in the Boston Marathon earlier this year. You know you’re within striking distance. Now you’re putting everything you have into running even faster.
I love that you’ve put such an ambitious goal out there on social media. When you say your goal out loud, you hold yourself accountable. You give people a reason to care about you, believe in you and cheer you on.
As someone who teaches marketing and social media, I also love what you are doing with Brooks. They have been documenting your preparation and build, sharing your story and allowing us to follow your journey for a while now and and all the way up to October 11 – every step of the way.
That’s great content. That’s great storytelling. That’s great branding. That’s great PR.
But most importantly, that’s great ambition, confidence and determination, Clayton.
Visualize it. Believe it. Manifest it. Run it.
Breaking the American record would be awesome (especially with that hamstring injury). Winning Chicago would be ridiculously awesome.
Go for it, Clayton Young. You got this.
